The new man had told his sponsor he was an atheist when they began working the steps. He evolved into an agnostic upon reading and discussing chapter four with his sponsor. After taking the third step he said he felt different. In reading his 4th step to his sponsor he knew something was shifting inside of him, he began to feel free.
The sign of a true spiritual path is that it helps the people grow to become more godlike, to be capable of more love and mercy—for themselves as well as for others.
We begin to feel the nearness of our Creator. We may have had certain spiritual beliefs, but now we begin to have a spiritual experience. The feeling that the drink problem has disappeared will often come strongly. We feel we are on the Broad Highway, walking hand in hand with the Spirit of the Universe.
